‘Sourav Being Deprived’: Didi Bats For Dada, Urges PM To Allow Him To Contest For ICC Chief’s Post

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee On Monday, Sourav Ganguly expressed his shock over not being re-nominated for the post of president of the country’s cricket board, while Jay Shah was allowed a second term as secretary. She also said that she would request the Prime Minister Narendra Modi To allow former Indian captain to fight for International Cricket The post of head of the Council (ICC).

The Trinamool Congress president, who is on a four-day tour of North Bengal, said on landing at the Bagdogra airport on Monday, “Sourav is our pride and he played well and did well as an administrator too. He was given the responsibility of the Board President for three years and he performed that role very well. We don’t know why he was removed after completing his term and Amitbabu’s son (Amit Shah’s son, Jay Shah) remained there. We have no problem with him continuing as BCCI secretary but we want to know why Sourav was removed from the post of BCCI President.

He insisted that Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar etc. have represented India ICC needs more Sourav too.

Mamta said that it has nothing to do with politics. He further said, “It is my humble honor and request to the Prime Minister to allow him to contest elections in ICC. He is being denied. What is his fault?”

Observers say that Sourav Ganguly, popularly known as “Maharaj”, represents the identity and image of West Bengal. He said that Mamta batted at the right time for the southpaw batsman and never in the last two years has the TMC said anything against him, while there was a strong buzz that he would join the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Responding to this, BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said, “The ambassador of Bengal is not Sourav but Shah Rukh Khan, if she (Mamata) feels so much for Sourav? They are trying to do politics unnecessarily in this.

When the first news broke that Sourav would be no more as BCCI president, Trinamool leaders spoke for him, and now Mamata has joined in.

The former India captain had last week said that he may contest for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

According to people close to Sourav, he wants to continue in the cricket administration, and then possibly take the next step after considering all options.

Observers said the Trinamool Congress is expected to raise the issue of “depriving Sourav” to attack the BJP.
