Squeezing lemon juice on hot food can harm the human body – experts reveal

The health benefits of lemon need no separate introduction. It is loaded with many essential nutrients that help boost immunity, skin health, gut health, promote weight loss and much more. This is the reason why you will find many types of people including lemon in their diet. Some people like to drink lemonade early in the morning, while some add lemon juice to their salads. To better understand the theory, we contacted some popular nutritionists from across India to understand the effects of lemon juice in any hot meal. According to consultant nutritionist Rupali Dutta, “Vitamin C doesn’t spoil immediately, so if you sip the juice while eating, you’ll get vitamin C. Even in hot water, it’s the same. In fact, exposure to oxygen degrades.” The vitamin content of the fruit over time.”

Adding to this, Dr. Namita Nadar, Lead Nutritionist, Fortis Hospital Noida explained, “The amount of Vitamin C in any citrus fruit is very sensitive to heat. This will result in negative effects of vitamin C.” Dr Nadar further added, “Vitamin C also improves the immunity of our body and it helps in fighting infection. If mixed with hot food, it will help them to reduce the ESI level , which is inflammation in the body. Therefore, lemon should be used at a normal temperature or in cold foods.”
