SRMU protests against Centre’s plan to monetize PSUs

The Center should stop the privatization of railways developed by the contribution of the people.

Members of the Southern Railway Mazdoor Sangh on Wednesday protested against the Centre’s move to monetise public sector units.

The Union Divisional Secretary, JM Rafi slammed the BJP government for selling public sector units made by the sweat of citizens in the last 75 years.

The Center should stop the privatization of railways developed by the contribution of the people. The Center was planning to privatize 400 railway stations across the country and also privatize 10 routes and 90 trains.

The Railway Workshop, the Nilgiri Mountain Train, the Konkan Railway and the 762-km Express Freight Corridor were also involved in the privatization plan, said its assistant divisional secretary V. Ramkumar, who led the protests, he said.

He said that not only the public sector units but also the permanent employment of lakhs of workers were at stake.
