St. Aloysius Anglo-Indian High School celebrates 175 years of existence in Visakhapatnam

The two-day Dodransbicentennial (175 years) celebrations of St Aloysius Anglo-Indian High School ended on a high note here on Saturday.

On Saturday, a host of eminent persons attended the official function of the school. These included Archbishop of Visakhapatnam Prakash Mallavarapu, Principal Secretary of Health Medical and Family Welfare Department Muddada Ravi Chandra and General Manager of SFS Group of Schools Baviri Suresh Babu.

Talking about the school, Mr. Ravi Chandra, who is also an alumnus of the school, recalled his days at the school and how it helped him in his initial days.

More than 3,500 students, parents, faculty and staff participated in the event, which included a colorful cultural program by the students.

Addressing the gathering, Archbishop Prakash said that the school has touched the lives of many during its 175 years of existence. He said the dedication of the missionaries and staff is remarkable.

Giving brief information about the school, the principal of the school, Fr. S. Mariadas states that it was started in June 1847 in a two-room building by Rev. Fr. Joseph Tissot, who came so far from France with a group of missionaries. The idea was to provide quality English education to the local people and since then the school has grown from strength to strength over the past 175 years, to become an acclaimed institution of English education living up to its motto ‘Virtue and Labour’, which means is ‘right character and right effort’.

He also said that the celebrations started on June 21 this year and ended on a colorful note.

Earlier on Friday, alumni from different batches from 1950s to the latest organized colorful reunion meets. More than 1200 alumni participated in the event organized by the alumni of the school.

Students dressed in colorful attires were seen roaming around the school along with their batchmates reminiscing their school days.

Andhra Pradesh High Court Justices DVSS Somayajulu and Ch. Manvendranath Rai, who is an alumnus of the school graced the occasion as the chief guest.
