Star Sports gets eight sponsors for Pro Kabaddi League Season 8

New Delhi: Sports broadcaster Star Sports, which holds the official media rights to broadcast the Pro Kabaddi League, has roped in eight sponsors and major advertisers ahead of the league’s start from December 22.

The league will return after a two-year hiatus and will have sponsors such as Vivo, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, A23, Dream11, mFine, Byju’s, Officers’ Choice and Parimatch News.

Some of these and other leagues also have advertisers such as Mfine, A23, Parimatch News, Winzo, GSK, and Luminous, among others. This is the eighth season of the league and will be played without spectators at the Sheraton Grand Bangalore Whitefield Hotel & Convention Center at the same venue.

“The overall reception from advertisers is a testament to the brand value of India’s home sport. We have cemented our position as a broadcaster that provides customized creative solutions to drive high engagement to advertisers and we are confident that advertisers The interest among the audience will only continue to grow with each passing year,” a Star Sports spokesperson said.

The league has a new format which will include Triple Panga (Triple Headers) in the first four days in the opening week. Bengaluru Bulls will take on U Mumba in the first match. The ‘Southern Derby’ between Tamil Thalaivas and Telugu Titans will be the second match, after which UP Yoddha will take on defending champion Bengal Warriors in the final match of the day.

The PKL player auction held in August this year had retained 59 players ahead of the season in Mumbai. In the auction, more than 450 players went under the hammer and 190 of them were sold for player 48.22 crores. Notable player auctions included Pradeep Narwal who was bought by UP Yoddha 1.65 crores, becoming one of the most expensive players to be auctioned in a league outside cricket. Siddharth Desai was retained by Telugu Titans for 1.30 crores.

The format of the game is influenced by the Indian Premier League. There are total 12 teams and the current champions are Bengal Warriors. Patan Pirates, on the other hand, has won a total of three titles in eight seasons.
