Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin on facing racism from fans: ‘Why I’m the least favorite, I’m on the same show…’ – Henry Club

strange things Actor Caleb McLaughlin, who played Lucas Sinclair on the hit Netflix show, recently opened up about how he confronted racism by ‘fans’ at the start of the show. “It definitely took a toll on me as a little kid,” the actor said at Heroes Comic Con Belgium on Sunday.

“My first Comic-Con, some people didn’t stand in my line because I was Black. Some people said to me, ‘Oh, I didn’t want to be in your line because you were mean to Eleven’ [Millie Bobby Brown],” the actor mentioned at the incident. Caleb further added that even today he realizes that sometimes people don’t support him and he doesn’t have as many followers on social media because of the color of his skin.

“Even now some people don’t follow or support me because I’m black. Sometimes abroad you feel racism, you feel bigotry. Sometimes it’s hard to talk about and understand people, but it definitely affected me a lot when I was younger. Why am I the least favorite? Lowest number of followers? I’m on the same show as everyone in season 1. My parents had to be like, ‘That’s a sad truth, but it’s because you’re the black child on the show… because I was born with this beautiful chocolate skin, I’m not in love,’ said the actor.

However, Caleb ended his session on a positive note as he said that he doesn’t want to give hate back to people who hate him for reasons beyond his control: “I want to spread the love.”
