Supporters say that Satyapal Malik, the former governor of Jammu and Kashmir, has been taken into ‘detention’. Delhi Police says ‘he himself came’

New Delhi: A day after being summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with an alleged insurance scam, former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Saturday went to the RK Puram police station in southwest Delhi as he was not allowed to hold a meeting. Was given His supporters.

While media reports quoted supporters as saying that Malik was detained at the police station, a senior official denied this.

“We have not detained former governor Satya Pal Malik or his supporters. Malik himself has come to RK Puram police station and we have informed him that he can go on his own free will.

According to police, Malik was scheduled to meet some of his supporters, including some agriculture leaders and khap panchayat leaders from Punjab and Haryana, at his Som Vihar residence on Saturday. Police said Malik decided to host their lunch at a local park but was asked not to do so as no permission was sought beforehand.

However, Malik’s supporters claim that the “arrest” took place – they released videos of him allegedly on a bus in custody, The Indian Express said in a report.

Malik told reporters outside the police station that the police “will not arrest us now”.

TeaThe development came a day after the CBI summoned Malik in connection with its ongoing probe into alleged irregularities in Reliance General Insurance’s ‘Jammu and Kashmir Employees’ Health Insurance Scheme’.

In October 2021, Malik had Claimed that he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore to clear two files during his tenure as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir between 23 August 2018 and 30 October 2019.

Malik claimed that the two files contained a group medical insurance scheme for government employees and a contract for civil works worth Rs 2,200 crore related to the Kiru hydroelectric project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district.

He was summoned days after Malik gave interviews to two web channels critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the current government on a range of issues, including the 2019 Pulwama attack and bifurcation of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state.
