AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been named in Sweden’s squad for their final two World Cup qualifiers for Georgia and Spain after recovering from injury.

The 40-year-old, who has scored twice in his last three Serie A games, missed Euro 2020 with a knee injury and although he was named in the previous Sweden squad by coach Janine Andersson, was forced to pull out. Had to be because they continued his rehabilitation.

He returns to the team to top Group B after six games with 15 points, two ahead of Spain. The winners of the group qualify directly for the final in Qatar and the runners-up go on to the second qualifying stage.

Andersen said in a statement, “I am very hopeful that he will be able to contribute. We have had a lot of contact and he is very much looking forward to joining the national team. It is definitely good for us. So important. Good player with so much experience in the position.”

Manchester United defender Viktor Lindelof was included in the squad despite being knocked out in training on Monday.

Sweden will take on Georgia in Batumi on 11 November before meeting Spain in their final group game in Seville three days later.
