Dubai: Suryakumar Yadav is one of the players to be blamed for India’s humiliating 10-wicket defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Pakistan in a Super 12 blockbuster in the Twenty20 World Cup in Dubai on Sunday.
If media reports and reactions from angry fans are to be considered, this stylish batsman is the one who has been facing the harshest criticism for his failure at the moment when India needed him the most.
It may be recalled that Team India lost both the openers – Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul – in just two overs at the start of the game through a brilliant spell from ‘Man of the Match’ Shaheen Shah Afridi.
After the loss of two early wickets, India have pinned all their hopes on Suryakumar Yadav amid hopes that he will continue to move up the scoreboard with skipper Virat Kohli.

After a ten-wicket loss against Pakistan in their opening match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, skipper Virat Kohli on Sunday said that the Babar Azam-led side beat them outright in the game.
Mohammad Rizwan and captain Babar Azam put on a brilliant performance as Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
“We didn’t execute well. Credit where it’s due and Pakistan got us out today. They got off to a great start with the ball, and 3 for 20 wasn’t a good start. We need quick wickets but with the bat, they Diya we have absolutely no chance,” Kohli told host broadcaster Star Sports after the game was over.
“It played slow in the first half and it was not as easy to hit through the line as it was in the second half, after 10 overs. We needed those 15-20 extra runs and for that, we needed a good start But Pakistan’s bowling didn’t allow us to score those extra runs.”
Kohli said that his team now has an accurate idea of where the first match against Pakistan went and where it went wrong for them. He said Pakistan’s brilliant bowling in the first six overs meant India could not score an extra 20-25 runs.
“As a team we need to understand what was the reality of the situation in the middle. And 20-25 extra runs would have been good. But the great bowling in the first six didn’t allow us to. To get those extra runs. We know how the game went and where it went wrong. We have complete clarity on it, which is a good thing to know where you went wrong as a team,” Kohli said in a post-match press conference on Sunday.
Kohli said, “So, you can work and try to improve it and move on because we still have a lot of matches in this tournament. If we follow our procedures, we are sure We can really feel that we can work on these mistakes.”
Explaining how the match ended, especially after Pakistan came into the picture during the chase, Kohli said, “If the pitch gets a little better to bat on, you get off at the start. Then you The more dew came in the second half of Pakistan’s innings and they were able to rotate the strike.”

I think he hit the right areas to take wickets, and in T20 cricket you need good execution to take wickets with the new ball, and of course, He did that, so credit is given to him. He put our batsmen under pressure immediately with the new ball, and he ran with intensity and showed he was bowling consistently in the areas.”
Kohli credited Pakistan for beating his team in all departments in the opening match of the tournament, saying that his team tried its best to put them under pressure.
“They definitely overtook us. No doubt about it. If you don’t beat the opposition you don’t win by ten wickets. We didn’t even get a chance. They were very professional. He has to give credit. We tried our best. We tried to put enough pressure on him. But he had the answer. There is no shame in admitting that a team played better than you.”
India’s next match in the tournament is against New Zealand on 31 October in Dubai.
