Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the five-day annual flower show in Ooty. Coimbatore News – Times of India

subdivision: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday inaugurated the 124th edition of the annual flower show at the Government Botanical Garden (GBG) in Ooty.
Flower beds containing more than five lakh plants of 275 varieties are spread all over GBG, which is spread over 55 acres.
Around 35,000 potted flowers of 150 varieties adorn the gallery. Heliconias, tulips and liliums were imported from Holland for the show.
A floral logo of Ooty-200 has been installed to mark the bicentenary celebrations since the colonial exploration of the Nilgiris. The 80 feet tall and 20 feet high replica of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University made of one lakh carnations is the main attraction. Models of tribal people in the Nilgiris and a butterfly made of flowers worth Rs 45,000 are also drawing crowds.
After inaugurating the five-day show, Stalin visited the flower gallery, stalls put up by local organizations and the Italian Garden. He received petitions from locals and took selfies with tourists. A cultural program was organized on this occasion.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister MRK Panneerselvam, Forest Minister K Ramachandran, Nilgiris MP A Raja, Ooty MLA R Ganesh, Nilgiris Collector SP Amrit and Horticulture Department director R Vrinda Devi participated in the inauguration.
Flower shows in Ooty are rarely inaugurated by Chief Ministers. In 1995, the late CM J Jayalalithaa inaugurated the flower show and the 100th edition of the Government Rose Garden. After 22 years, former CM Edappadi K Palanisamy inaugurated the show in 2017 and 2018.
