A DMK delegation may meet the President in New Delhi on Wednesday to submit a memorandum against the governor.

The tussle between Tamil Nadu’s ruling party DMK and Governor RN Ravi escalated on Tuesday after the governor suggested ‘Tamizhagam’ as a suitable name for ‘Tamil Nadu’ and parts of his speech in the state assembly on Monday were left out. A DMK delegation is likely to meet the President in New Delhi on Wednesday to submit a memorandum against the governor.

Posters of #GetoutRavi”, featuring Chief Minister MK Stalin prominently, surfaced in parts of Chennai on Tuesday, while another controversy erupted over the absence of the state government’s logo in the Raj Bhavan Pongal event invitation.

  • The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday sought to make it categorically clear that the governor should only read out the document prepared by the state government as his traditional address to the assembly and there was no room for his personal opinion or objections. As per Article 176 of the Constitution, the governor’s address on the opening day of the first session of the year is one that “highlights the policies, plans and achievements of the state government,” it said in a statement.
  • Meanwhile, Chief Minister MK Stalin instructed DMK party members and women to refrain from attacking the governor, according to The Times of India. At a meeting of party legislators in Chennai, Stalin asked them not to spend their energy on “negative politics”.
