The Gullapally Pratibha Rao International Center for Advancement of Rural Eye Care (GPR ICARE) of LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Poornima and Ramam Atmakuri Technology Center at Kismatpur was inaugurated by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Wednesday.

All the technology and innovation work done at LVPEI will now come under the umbrella of Poornima and Ramam Atmakuri Technology Centre. The center covers product development, medical eye care products, scleral lens manufacturing (specialty contact lenses), electronic medical record (EMR) systems and data science and healthcare incubators.

In recognition of the significant contribution made by LVPEI Executive Vice President Ramam Atmakuri to technology development initiatives at the institute, the center has been named after him and his wife Poornima Atmakuri. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the center houses a multidisciplinary team of engineers, ophthalmologists, optometrists, technologists and public health experts.

Speaking about the decision of the Founder-Chairman of the Institute, Dr. GN Rao to come back to India, Mr. Rama Rao said that Dr. Rao chose not to stay in the USA, back in 1986 to contribute to the country and the people. Come who has led. To establish an institution of world class standards.

The MAUD minister has also said that they have set up a large medical equipment park in Sultanpur where more than 28 companies that have taken land are in the advanced stage of completing their projects. He has requested the Executive Vice President and others at LVPEI to get all the companies which manufacture their medical devices for ophthalmology.

“I would be happy to form a small cluster in the medical device park and we can give them customized centres. LV Prasad Eye Institute can act as a sheet anchor in bringing you all together. It will go great with Atma Nirbhar Bharat or Atmanirbhar Bharat,” he said.
