Hyderabad:

The Telangana government today issued an order giving 10 per cent reservation to Scheduled Tribes in educational institutions and government jobs.

At present, there is six per cent reservation for the ST community in the state.

In a recent public meeting, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said that his government will soon issue orders to increase the quota for STs in government jobs and educational institutions to 10 per cent.

A bill on 10 per cent reservation was passed by the Telangana Assembly in April 2017 and was sent to the Center for obtaining the assent of the President.

During these nearly six years, the state government sent several representations in this regard, but the same is still pending. Therefore, in these circumstances, without any further loss of time, it is expedient to increase the percentage of reservation for Scheduled Tribes, the GO said.

“The Government of Telangana, after careful consideration of the above special circumstances, orders to increase the reservation for Scheduled Tribes in educational institutions and services of the State Government from 6 per cent to 10 per cent.”
