Hyderabad:

The Telangana government on Saturday said that it has decided to observe September 17 as “Telangana National Unity Day”. September 17 is the day of the merger of Hyderabad State with the Indian Union under the Nizam’s rule in 1948.

An official release issued after a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said the government would organize a three-day event from September 16.

On September 17, the chief minister will unfurl the national flag and address the people in a public park, while ministers and other public representatives will do the same at their respective centres.

A huge rally will be taken out in the city after which KCR will address a public meeting.

On September 18, besides honoring the freedom fighters of the state at all district headquarters, poets, artists and other personalities will be honored.

The cabinet has also decided to increase the number of beneficiaries under the Dalit Bandhu scheme from 100 to 500 in each assembly constituency.
