In hotels, it is common for guests who are slightly distracted or pressed for time while packing to leave unintentional souvenirs for the staff in their rooms. For example, a charger next to the nightstand or a fabric tangled in the bedding. But some guests are able to forgo the more unusual items. British hotel chain Travelodge recently published a list of the most surprising things that were forgotten in 2022 in 580 of its hotels. And not only inanimate objects are shown in the list!
In fact, some guests go to the extent of forgetting their pets. This has happened to famous people as well. Once, singer Jennifer Lopez and actor Ben Affleck left their hotel separately, only to realize they had left their two Japanese spaniels behind, each thinking the other had taken the dogs. Is! But other guests beat the star couple to a case of forgetfulness, with some managing to forget a pair of donkeys (named Daisy and Duke) at the Travelodge Poole North hotel, even though they had bought them. The new owners clearly had other things on their minds!
While the animals are obviously quite extraordinary, some surprising items have also turned up. Another interesting thing about this highly improbable list is that some of the items left behind are decidedly patriotic in nature. Staff at Travelodge found a large number of Union Jack flags, for example a wedding cake in the colors of Liverpool Soccer Club, as well as a scrapbook from the life of Queen Elizabeth II (which the client even made a return trip to retrieve). And if you’re wondering what happens to these forgotten items, Travelodge says their fate mainly depends on their owner, who has three months to collect them. After this time, the remains are donated to local thrift stores run by the All British Heart Foundation charity.
