Keanu Reeve’s The Matrix Resurrection Trailer Out
Keanu Reeves is back as Neo in “The Matrix Resurrection,” the new chapter of his cult classic sci-fi series. Warner Bros. on Thursday unveiled the first trailer for one of the anticipated titles of the year 2021 and it does not disappoint. The trailer begins with a scene inside a doctor’s office, played by Neil Patrick Harris, talking to his client – Reeves’ Neo, who now has long hair and a full beard.
Neo is now Thomas, it seems, and is once again struck inside the fake reality, called the Matrix. And he doesn’t know how to deal with it, just like what happened to him in 1999’s “The Matrix.”
“I had dreams that weren’t just dreams. Am I crazy?” He asks the doctor, who replies, “We don’t use that word here.” Thomas is shown to be highly dependent on the blue pills.
In the next scene, he has an interesting conversation with Carrie Anne Moss’ Trinity, who appears to be equally lost in the Matrix. “have we met?” She asks as the song “White Rabbit” from Jefferson Airplane plays in the background.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas also appears in the trailer as a mysterious figure who strangely smiles at Neo.
It is now also clear that Hollywood star Yahya Abdul Mateen II will be playing a somewhat younger version of Morpheus, the famous character previously portrayed by Lawrence Fishburne in the original trilogy.
He gives Thomas a red pill, synonymous with the premise of the franchise, and tells him it is “time to fly”. Soon footage of Neo with powers, looking to The Matrix for a fake reality, plays.
The rest of the trailer is packed with some exciting action sequences as Neo is once again chased by the Agents of the Matrix.
Plenty of jumps, mid-air, karate and acrobatic twists are all that fans have come to expect from the movie “Matrix”.
In the final moments of the trailer, “Mindhunter” star Jonathan Groff appears and tells Neo, “After all these years, I have to go back to where it all began. Back to the Matrix”.
Lana Wachowski, one half of the Wachowskis who directed all three films in the franchise with sister Lily, has written and directed the new project.
In addition to Reeves and Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith also returns for the fourth installment, while newcomers include Jessica Henwick and Christina Ricci.
Produced by Village Roadshow Pictures and Venus Castina Productions, “The Matrix Resurrections” will be released in December by Warner Bros.
