BENGALURU: On Monday morning at around 10.30 am, a call was received from Rajeshwari M, a resident of KP Agrahara. Rajajinagar Police is asking him to come to the police station. Concerned, Rajeshwari and her husband arrived there only to be told that their father, Muniraju, who died in July 2020, was yet to be cremated and that his mutilated body was found in a nearby morgue. “It has been over 470 days and they are telling us today that they forgot to cremate my father’s body. How is this possible,” asked Rajeshwari, failing to hold back her tears.
“My mother has not recovered from the shock of losing her husband. Me and my sisters were not even allowed to see his dead body even once. I don’t know how to tell her now that her husband’s body was not cremated. Rajeshwari, the youngest of Muniraju’s three daughters, said, “I don’t think she will be able to break heart anymore.
On the night of 29 June, around 8 pm, Muniraju complained of breathlessness and severe cough. The family immediately took him to ESIC Hospital in Rajajinagar. Three days later, Rajeshwari received a call that her father had died. COVID-19,
Muniraju’s daughters along with their mother requested the hospital authorities if they could at least see her from afar, but they were denied permission.
“They said the body was handed over to the BBMP for cremation and also gave us the death certificate,” Rajeshwari said.
On November 10 last year, Muniraju’s wife M Gajalakshmi wrote to ESIC Hospital (to BBMP) seeking Form 4 to apply for compensation for her husband’s death due to COVID-19. His application is still under process. This year the family celebrated Muniraju’s first death anniversary.
