‘Thief, thief’, Pakistan’s finance minister beaten up at US airport watch

Pakistan’s newly-appointed Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was “welcomed” at Washington airport in the US by angry protesters with slogans of “liar” and “chor” (thieves) as he attends meetings of the World Bank and International country had arrived. When Dar arrived at the US airport, an angry protester was heard shouting “You are a liar. You are a liar” and “chor-thief.” Dar and his aides, who seemed annoyed by the incidents of abuses targeting the minister, were seen giving a befitting reply, as can be seen in a video shared widely on social media.

“You are a liar,” Dar retorted at the man who was clearly abusing him. It was all caught on camera and the video soon went viral.

This is not the first time a Pakistani minister has been publicly bombarded with humiliation during foreign visits. Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb was beaten up in a coffee shop in London last month. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif-led delegation, who was in Saudi Arabia on a three-day official visit, received a “wonderful welcome” as they entered the Masjid-e-Nabawi in Medina.

Pilgrims raised “chor thief” [thieves] They raised slogans on seeing the delegation going towards Masjid-e-Nabawi. In a video, Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and National Assembly member Shahzain Bugti were seen along with others. According to the Pakistani newspaper, Aurangzeb indirectly blamed former Prime Minister Imran Khan for the protest.

“I will not take this person’s name on this holy land because I don’t want to use this land for politics. But they have destroyed [Pakistani] society,” The Express Tribune quoted Aurangzeb as saying.
