Tomb of Gitanjali Shree wins International Booker Prize

Gitanjali, a Delhi-based writer has become the first Indian author to win the Sri International Booker Prize. His novel, Ritt Mausoleum, translated into English as the Tomb of the Sands by Daisy Rockwell, won the International Booker Prize. It was the first Hindi language book to be selected for the £50,000 prize.

It is a story set in the shadow of the Partition of India, which follows an elderly woman after the death of her husband. “Yes! Geetanjali Shree is the author of many short stories and novels. His 2000 novel My was shortlisted for the Crossword Book Award in 2001.
