In an exclusive interview to News18, Union MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik expressed confidence that the Narendra Modi government’s welfare schemes for women and tribals will see the party through in the state where the Left ruled for decades.
Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik is all set to contest the Tripura elections from Dhanpur seat on February 16. Bhowmik’s rise to the ranks at the center is a story of humble beginnings that is coming full circle with the election battle in Tripura. , where he worked hard to build the party organization.
In an exclusive interview to News18, Bhowmik expressed confidence that Narendra Modi The government’s welfare schemes for women and tribals will propel the party forward in a state where the Left ruled for decades.

How confident are you about winning the election?
The people of Tripura will stamp on the development model of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We will win with absolute majority.
In this election, there is an alliance between the Congress and the Left against the BJP in Tripura. Do you think this will challenge the party?
It is good that they have been exposed in front of the people. Both parties know that they cannot fight us individually. Hence the alliance. Also the grassroots workers do not have faith in this alliance. Only the top leaders have aligned according to the politics of convenience.
The BJP has reposed faith in you and given you the ticket; From Union Minister to contesting assembly elections. Are you happy?
I am a small worker of the party. Whatever responsibility is given to me, I will fulfill it.
Is Trinamool Congress a challenge?
We treat everyone who fights against us as a challenger. We must fight them tooth and nail.
What is BJP’s strategy for tribal seats? Will Tipra Motha affect your chances on those seats?
The PM has done a lot for the tribals and we have ensured that it reaches the last man. The tribals have got roads, electricity and they do not have to go far for water. We have implemented schemes like Har Ghar Jal. had no plan to give of leases To the tribals We have given them rights over their lands. They got the ownership rights. everyone does governance (rules), we have done good governance (Good governance). We will win under the leadership of Narendra Modi.
How do you think your performance will be in tribal seats?
We will win tribal seats as we have focused on inclusive development; Everyone’s support, everyone’s development was our aim. There used to be discrimination in development in Tripura, but the Modi government has ensured last mile delivery in the state.
Be it Pradhan Mantri Awas, Har Ghar Jal, Ujjwala gas cylinder or other schemes, we have tried to make the life of women dignified. Government also started Kisan Samman Nidhi which benefited 2.5 lakh farmers and better MSP was also implemented. We have identified 12 blocks as aspirational blocks and worked hard to improve their condition.
