Two migrant workers found guilty of gang rape at Thiruvananthapuram resort

The fast track special court in Neyyattinkara found two migrant workers guilty of gang-raping a woman at a working resort in Poovar nine years ago.

Judge Reshmi Sadanandan found Lakhinath and Presongam of Assam’s Jorhat district guilty of the offense that took place at the resort on November 28, 2013. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on June 18.

According to the prosecution, led by Special Public Prosecutor Ajit Thankayya, the incident took place when a delegation of 30 senior officials of a Bengaluru-based multinational company checked into the island resort during their visit to the state. Survivor, a software professional, led the group that included seven women.

Both were contract workers at a pest-control firm, to which the resort had outsourced cleaning and pest-control services. The accused had loosened the latch of the balcony door on the eve of the incident, taking advantage of the time when the victim was away from her single-occupied room.

Later they entered the room and raped the victim when she was sleeping around 2.30 pm

The investigation of the matter was done by the then former circle inspector G. Binu, who had filed a chargesheet in the court.
