He said the PM Gatishakti master plan is being powered by geospatial technology, as is the Digital Ocean platform. India has already set an example in sharing the benefits of geospatial technology, the Prime Minister said, citing the example of the South Asia Satellite to facilitate communication in India’s neighbourhood.
One of the most important freedoms is the freedom to innovate, the Prime Minister said, and this has been ensured for the geospatial sector. He said that the collection, generation and digitization of geospatial data has now become democratic. With such reforms the drone sector has been boosted and 5G has been introduced in India along with opening up the space sector for private participation.
According to Prime Minister Modi, the Covid-19 pandemic should have been a call to take everyone along. He stressed that the international community needs an institutional approach to help each other in times of crisis.
“Global organizations like the United Nations can take the lead in taking resources to the last mile in every field,” he said.
Hand-holding and technology transfer are also important in fighting climate change, the Prime Minister suggested while sharing best practices to save our planet.
The Prime Minister underlined the endless possibilities of geospatial technology. These include sustainable urban development, management and mitigation of disasters, tracking the effects of climate change, forest management, water management, prevention of desertification and food security. He expressed his desire that this conference should become a forum to discuss developments in such important areas.
