The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) received the Porter Prize 2023 at an event organized by the Institute for Competitiveness (IFC) and Stanford University. In a statement, MoHFW said, “In a significant achievement towards recognizing the efforts in the health sector and especially in COVID management, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India has received the Porter Prize 2023. Announcement of the award ‘The India Dialogue’ organized by the Institute for Competitiveness (IFC) and the US Asia Technology Management Center (USATMC) at Stanford University on 23 and 24 February.
It was presented to the MoHFW in the virtual presence of Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and MoHFW Secretary Rajesh Bhushan. The theme of the conference was ‘The Indian Economy 2023: Innovation, Competitiveness and Social Progress’.” ASHA workers in industry to manufacture PPE kits. Addressing the event, Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said, “It is indeed a matter of honor and privilege to receive this prestigious award from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. which will encourage us to do better in future and ensure that our responses are more agile and evidence-based. The conference featured a series of keynote speeches and panel discussions on the topics of innovation, competitiveness and societal progress. The participants gained a perspective about the future for India and the challenges for its continued progress. Intellectuals and domain experts in the fields of economics, business, policy-making and social development were present to provide their latest perspectives on the state of the Indian economy in 2023.
The Porter Prize is named after economist, researcher, author, consultant, speaker, and teacher Michael E. Porter. He has brought economic theory and strategy concepts to bear on many of the most challenging problems facing corporations, economies and societies, including market competition and company strategy, economic development, the environment and healthcare. His research has received numerous awards, and he is one of the most cited scholars in economics and business today.
Other speakers who were part of the special presentation panel were Mr. Hari Menon, Director-India Country Office, BMGF; Dr Michael Enright, Professor, Northeastern University; Dr. SV Subramanian, Professor, Harvard TH Chans School of Public Health and Dr. Mark Esposito, Professor, Hult International Business School and Department of Continuing Education, Harvard University, the ministry further said.
