UPSC’s main essay exam also ‘philosopher’, questions from ‘universe’, candidates started meme fest

The essay paper of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Mains 2021 was held on Friday, January 7. According to many candidates, the paper was more “philosophical”. Several UPSC aspirants took to Twitter to share the question paper after the exam and it started after that. A meme festival. The candidates were asked to write two essays, each of between 1,000 and 1,200 words.

In section A, students write on “the philosophy of redundancy is utopian, while materialism is a fantasy” and “is the real rational and the rational is real”. What is the “world” and “research, but a blind date with knowledge!”

“Other than a joke, it makes no sense. One section should have a philosophy orientation. But maybe that’s too much? The exam is for recruiting officers for the civil service, not for becoming a Jagat Guru. Most of the people in India Still dealing with real ground issues and not rooted in philosophy,” wrote one user.

“It will sound very philosophical. Actually it is and now it is all about the real test of the personality of the candidates. UPSC is now on the way to change things fast. No bookish knowledge will work. One has to be very authentic. Needed,” wrote another.
