UPSTF arrests Dr Ritu Garg of Santushti Ayurvedic Medical College for her involvement in admission scam

Ritu is the director of Santoshi Ayurvedic Medical College, Mirzapur.

Garg was taken to Lucknow to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court. He was sentenced to 14 days judicial custody till March 13 and then sent to jail.

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force has arrested Dr. Ritu Garg, the main accused in the AYUSH scam. The police arrested him from his residence in Varanasi. He has been arrested for his alleged involvement in facilitating the admission of ineligible candidates by forging the NEET merit list. Ritu is the director of the Santoshi Ayurvedic Medical College in Mirzapur and is the 15th person since November last year when the discrepancies came to the fore.

Garg was taken to Lucknow to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court. He was sentenced to remain in judicial custody for 14 days till March 13, 2022. Discrepancies in admission of undergraduate students in government and commercial Ayurvedic, Unani and Homeopathic colleges were raised by the Union Ministry of AYUSH in the AYUSH scam case. The probe found that 932 students were admitted without using the required order of merit.

According to an official, over 100 ineligible applicants were given admission in Dr Garg’s private college by manipulating the NEET merit list and many students did not even appear for the Combined Medical Entrance Examination.

Former Director of Ayurveda Services Prof. on 14th February by STF. A charge sheet has been filed against 15 people, including Dr. SN Singh and Umakant Yadav, the officer in charge of the Directorate of Education (Ayurveda Services). He claimed that the pair and 12 others were arrested in the case in November last year after being suspended by the state administration.

Significantly, in 2021, candidates were selected for 7,338 places in the colleges of Homeopathy, Ayurveda and Unani. At least 6,797 seats were distributed under AYUSH, including government and private institutions. Of these, 982 allocations were found to be doubtful. Nine of the 982 names on this list – who never even appeared for NEET – were still offered seats in colleges. The Directorate of Ayurveda suspended all 982 students of the 2021 batch and barred them from appearing for the test, which Gorakhpur’s Ayush University had planned to conduct in June this year.
