Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections: Congress released the first list of candidates

New Delhi Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday released the party’s first list of 125 candidates, including 50 women, for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Unnao rape victim’s mother Asha Singh has also been nominated by the party from the Unnao assembly seat.

Addressing a press conference, he said that 40 per cent of Congress candidates are women and 40 per cent are youth and by doing so the party is making a new and historic beginning.

He said the party has fielded candidates who have fought for justice in Uttar Pradesh and the party wants them to come to the fore and be a part of power in the state.

“With 40 per cent women and 40 per cent youth, we hope to start a new kind of politics in Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

“Our list gives a new message. We want to tell those who have fought for their rights in the past and for getting justice, that they have the power to fight for their rights and the Congress party will give them that power. .Share of power in the state,” Vadra also said.

The AICC general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh did not respond to whether she would contest the election herself.

He said that the party would not run a negative campaign in these elections and instead would run a positive campaign for the bright future of Uttar Pradesh by highlighting issues related to people and women and development.

Hitting out at the Uttar Pradesh government, he said, it has been “dictatorial” and the discussions in the elections are skewed.

“Our focus will be to bring people’s issues on centre-stage,” she said.

Voting in Uttar Pradesh is to be held in seven phases from February 10.
