Video of baby elephant stepping on its own trunk is going viral

The video has been viewed over 4.4 million times.

It is adorable to watch baby elephants learn new skills. Interestingly, it takes them about a year to control their trunk. They take time and practice to master the use and become accustomed to the organ in front of their face.

An adorable video shared on Instagram page Today Years Old, shows a man feeding an elephant calf. After finishing its meal, the calf starts running fast and steps on its trunk in seconds. The little elephant himself became happy seeing this. The visitors present in the video can also be seen watching the elephant and its antics very closely.

The video is captioned, “I never considered it a possibility.” The clip was originally shared two days ago by another Instagram user, Reagan Anthony. Mr. Anthony shot the video when he was in Kenya.

The reshared video has garnered over 4.4 million views and 2.2 million likes. Page also added, “Fun fact: calves don’t learn to fully control their trunks until they are about a year old.”

Several internet users expressed sympathy for the elephant’s condition. One user wrote, “Someone just hugged her!”

Another user said, “Equal to biting your tongue while eating.”

One internet user said, “Avi, you could say it hurt her a lot. Little poor kid.”

A fourth added, “She looked around embarrassedly, as if someone saw that worthy”.

One user commented, “Damn I know that hurt, as sensitive as their trunks.”

According to National Geographic, this strange behavior is common in calves with their trunks and is often seen when they are learning to control their trunks.

Elephant expert Joyce Poole told them it could be a type of displacement behavior. She said that the elephant could not be sure about the social mobility of the boundary wall. Young elephants swing their legs and twist their trunks when they are unsure of their next move.
