Video of meteorite shining in UK’s night sky goes viral

Many stargazers were left in awe.

A huge meteor soared into the sky as a historic yet failed space launch took place in Cornwall in the United Kingdom. The spectacular natural phenomenon that lit up the night sky on Monday left the stars in awe.

Britain’s Met Office confirmed the meteorite sighting on Twitter and asked people to share footage. “Just reported a meteorite in the sky over the UK. If you manage to get some footage we’d love to see it,” wrote the microblogging platform. Blazing fireballs were seen flying over London, Sussex, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset and Devon, with many seeing it as far north as Wolverhampton near Birmingham.

Several Twitter users shared video recorded from their phones or from security cameras installed outside their homes.

One person said, “A very unsettling video taken by my daughter but have yet to see a video that isn’t on security cameras so thought I’d share. She was amazed and ran home to tell me I.”

Another user said: “I’ve seen some more meteor activity again moving east over south west London.”

A third person said, “I saw this around 8pm #blackheath #london #se3 huge white ball, red all around, long trail of shooting stars type tail, couldn’t believe my eyes. Beautiful. If I were anywhere else Would have been or missed looking away. Amazing.”

“Yeah, incredible. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. Massive orange red fireball. Observed for 10 seconds, no pictures. Viewed from Twickenham, traveling SW to NE, getting very low Extinguished before,” said the fourth man.

“I saw this in Balham South London. Bright orange, so down below, honestly thought it was a firework at the beginning so I thought ‘the world is ending’ Grateful to have seen it!” Added another user.
