Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin The Kremlin is going into self-isolation because of the coronavirus cases in its inner circle, saying on Tuesday that he tested negative for Covid-19.
The announcement came in the Kremlin’s readout of Putin’s phone call with the president of Tajikistan. Putin has been fully vaccinated with the Russian coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V, having received his second shot in April.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Putin is “absolutely healthy” but will self-isolate after coming into contact with someone who has contracted the virus. He did not specify how long Putin would remain in self-isolation, but assured that the president would continue to work as usual.
Asked whether Putin tested negative for the virus, Peskov said “definitely, yes.”
Peskov did not say who of Putin’s contacts were infected, saying only that there were multiple cases.
On Monday, the Russian president attended several public events. He greeted Russian Paralympians, participated in military exercises organized in coordination with Belarus and met Syrian President Bashar Assad.
During a meeting with the Paralympians, Putin mentioned that they “might have to quarantine soon.”
