New Delhi: A moving video has emerged of a minor trying to save her younger brother who was buried under the debris amid the ongoing relief and rescue operations in earthquake-hit Turkey and Syria. The video, which is now being shared by the Twitter community, shows a 7-year-old Syrian girl rescuing her younger brother as they are trapped under rubble.


The touching video was shared by World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who also praised the courage of the minor Syrian girl. The WHO chief tweeted, “Endless praise for this brave girl.” The video has been shared and retweeted by several Twitter users, including UN representative Mohamed Safa.

It has emerged that the young Syrian girl and her younger brother were trapped under the rubble for almost 17 hours, until they were spotted and rescued by rescuers.

The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria is now at least 15,383. Anadolu Agency cited Turkey’s disaster management agency, AFAD, as saying that 12,391 people were killed and 62,914 others were injured in Turkey after Monday’s earthquake hit the country.

The total death toll in Syria has now reached 2,992. Citing the White Helmets, CNN reported that 1,730 people had been killed in rebel-held areas in the northwest. A total of 1,262 people have been killed in government-controlled areas of Syria, CNN reported citing Syrian state media. The total number of wounded in both rebel and government-controlled areas in Syria has reached 5,108.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan acknowledged “shortcomings” in the earthquake response on Wednesday. He stressed that the weather conditions have magnified the magnitude of the destruction caused by the earthquake.

Erdogan made the remarks during his visit to the epicenter of Monday’s earthquake. CNN quoted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying, “Of course, there are loopholes. The conditions are clear. It is not possible to be prepared for such a disaster. We will not neglect any of our citizens.”

Erdogan said, ‘No doubt, our task was not easy.’ He added, “So far, a total of 21,200 personnel, including soldiers, gendarmes and police, are working in Hatay.” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that the state has mobilized all its resources. He said 6,444 buildings collapsed due to two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 that hit the country on Monday.
