While flowers, fruits, sweets and milk are often offered to the deities, devotees have found a unique way of worshiping Lord Shiva. A video of worshipers at a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in Gujarat’s Surat has gone viral on social media. On Thursday, ANI tweeted a video of the same with the caption, “Devotees offer crabs to Lord Shiva at Ramnath Shiv Ghela temple in Surat, Gujarat.”

In a subsequent tweet, the news agency revealed, “Crabs offered to Lord Shiva by devotees at Surat’s Ramnath Shiv Ghela temple are later released into the Tapi river after rituals.”

The video has so far been viewed over 134,000 times since being shared online. Social media users were divided as some had no idea what was happening while others shared positive notes. One of the users wrote, “The crabs are later collected by the temple authority and then released into the sea nearby. So yes, no harm is done to these little creatures.

Another worried user wrote, “What is all this? Never heard of these. Hope they let them go back to their homes.”

A devotee of the temple is quoted as saying, “It is believed that if you offer crabs here, your ear-related problems will be cured.”

Speaking to ANI, temple priest, Manojgiri Goswami, quoting the custom of offering crabs from the epic Ramayana, said, “Lord Rama had built this temple and sanctified it by saying that whoever worships Ekadashi On the day of offering crabs in this temple, he will get his wish. Understanding”. Devotees have also long believed that doing so would fulfill all their wishes and ensure their well-being.
