Welfare Fund Board should set up courts: Minister

Welfare Fund boards under the Labor Department should hold courts and dispose of files once in three months, Labor Minister V. Shivankutty has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating an advanced information interface system for all 16 welfare fund boards under the labor department here on Tuesday.

The minister said that the applications of workers for benefits should not be rejected for trivial reasons.

Employees should treat complainants with civility. All offices should have a functional front office. All phone calls must be received and answered. He said that the complainants should not come again and again to the offices.

All the Chief Executive Officers should visit the district offices and ensure their efficiency. Welfare Fund Board offices should implement punch in, punch out system, the minister said.

Training will be provided by Kerala Institute of Local Administration to all board members, employees, trade union representatives and Akshaya Kendras. Complete digitization will give a facelift to the board.

Sivankutty said that the new software will help in preventing dual subscription and distribution of benefits to the deserving people through the bank. The software will help in carrying out the day to day activities of 16 Welfare Fund Boards. These include administration, welfare project implementation, membership payments, accounting and office functioning.

As the Aadhaar-based details of the members will be incorporated in the software, smart ID cards with QR codes will be made available through the respective welfare funds. The minister said that in the first phase, the details of about 67 lakh members have been included in the software.
