‘What a year’: OYO sees highest bookings on New Year at 90 pandemic weekends

OYO Hotels Founder and Group CEO Ritesh Agarwal today said that the company’s bookings for the year 2021 were the highest in 90 pandemic weekends since April 2020, with total customer bookings globally 110 crores ($14.6 million) in the weekend.

“What a year 2021! For the world, for the journey and for ayo, It was so different yet so familiar. Now that the dust has been cleared of the biggest weekend of the year, here are some interesting things to know about OYO holidays,” he said in a tweet today.

He also wrote on LinkedIn: “Thanks to the over a million people who booked over half a million nights with us this New Years. For all of us at Oyo, it was a busy New York (New Years).”

In a series of tweets, Agarwal said that 58 per cent people booked hotels through OYO on the same day for the new year. The percentage of OYO bookings done on the same day for New Year’s Eve on December 31, 2021 was 58 per cent, it was 61 per cent in 2020, 57 per cent in 2019, 63 per cent in 2018 and 55 per cent. 2017, he wrote, adding that it was 69 per cent higher for the full fiscal year 2011.

According to Agarwal, OYO has evolved from its technology platform built for hotel and home SMBs. тАЬI am amazed at what thousands of OYOpreneurs have achieved,тАЭ he said, adding that in 2015, OYO ranked first in 127 cities and 1,229 storefronts, across India and in Malaysia. In 2021, OYO Hotels is present in 10,000 cities and 159,000 storefronts, in 35 countries. “Manufacturing products from India to the world,” he said.

Talking about the lessons learned from the past year, Agarwal said: тАЬIn 2021, we also learned many lessons for a better customer experience. Even with all the love we have received, I have to admit that We have to improve. And this year, I am personally focused on making an impact on this front.”

Alluding to the fresh spurt in COVID-19 cases, he said, “Let us all be prepared for 2022. And while 2020 and 2021 have been hard hit, we have seen that we will all seize every opportunity. Join in what you love – traveling and exploring the world around you.”
