The two-day festival, celebrated during the full moon date of the month of Phalgun, consists of two rituals: Holika Dahan and Dhulivandan, also known as Rang Panchami.

However, there is confusion regarding the dates of celebrating the festival this year. While the entire country will be celebrating Holi on March 7 and 8, the dates differ in the state of Maharashtra. According to the Marathi calendar, Holika Dahan is to be celebrated on Monday, March 6, while Rang Panchami is to be celebrated on March 7.

Why is Holika Dahan celebrated only on Monday in Maharashtra?

According to the interpretation given by a religious guru to Nagpur today, the full moon date will start from 3.57 pm on March 6. Along with this comes Bhadra Kaal, the religious guru has suggested that during this time the celebration of Holi should be avoided as it brings. bad luck.

However, if Bhadra Kaal is ending after midnight, then it is considered auspicious to perform Holika Dahan Puja during the time frame of Bhadra Pancha. According to experts, Bhadra Panch Muhurta is from 12.10 midnight to 1.27 midnight. They suggest that this is the most auspicious time for Holika Dahan. The full moon date will end on March 7 at 6 pm.

Hence, to keep Bhadra’s shadow away, the Guru suggests that everyone in Maharashtra should celebrate the festival on March 6 and 7. According to him, the states of India where the sunset is after 6.10 pm, the festival should be celebrated on 6th March.

But in many places including Bihar and Lucknow, the festival can be celebrated on March 7 as the sun sets before 6.10 pm. The Guru insisted that it is imperative to mark Holika Dahan during Bhadra Punchha itself to keep away bad luck.

What is Holika Dahan?

During Holika Dahan, on a burning pyre, people purify the air to drive away any evil spirits. The flames symbolize the victory of good over evil. People run around the flames, and offer grains or coconut covers to complete the ritual as a form of seeking blessings from the god.

What is Dhulivandan or Rang Panchami?

In the morning after lighting the Holi Dahan pyre, people use dry and water colors and drench each other to celebrate the auspicious festival.
