Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said education is a “priority” for the AAP-led government and work will be done to make government schools in both Delhi and Punjab “best in the world”.

Kejriwal was addressing a gathering of principals at a function here in the presence of his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann.

Mr. Mann said that teachers in Punjab will not engage in any other work other than teaching.

In his address, Mr. Kejriwal said, “Ever since we took charge here, it was very difficult to reform and fix the education system in Delhi.” The party supremo said that first the emphasis was on infrastructure and then the AAP government focused on training teachers and headmasters.

He said that unless the teachers and headmasters are motivated, the effect will not be visible.

“If the government wants, it can provide the best schools and education, but what matters is intentions and priorities. And education is our priority. We spent seven years in Delhi, but it will take less time in Punjab,” he said.

Kejriwal said, “We will make government schools in Delhi and Punjab the best in the world.”

The AAP chief said that Punjab will also experiment and Delhi will also learn from it.

A group of principals of government schools from Punjab, who underwent professional training in Singapore from February 6 to 10, shared their experiences during the event.

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains was also present on the occasion.
