CJI: Best way to make inequality a dream is to inculcate the spirit of constitutionalism

Chief Justice of India (CJI), DY Chandrachud Saturday said, “The best and surest way to make inequality a distant dream of the past is to inculcate a sense of constitutionalism in our society. But there is much work to be done until we rest. The deep inequality that divided our society at the time of independence persists even today.

The CJI was speaking at the first convocation of the Maharashtra National Law University in Nagpur, and referred to the Father of our Constitution, Dr. B.R. Throw light on the difficulties faced by Ambedkar.

He said, “Dr. Ambedkar had the deck stacked against him because of a caste-obsessed society and yet he persevered and went on to become one of the greatest personalities in the history of our country, perhaps the world.”

Faced with a situation where one must choose between saying or doing nothing and doing or saying or doing something, he said that the first option might be safer and less risky, but choosing the more difficult one and the law And doing a restructuring justice with society, was being courageous.

The CJI said that by striving to make the world a better place, people would uphold the constitutional values.

Talking about our Preamble, the CJI said that it was a small but important party to the Constitution, and added that the people of India have given themselves this Constitution.

He said that everyone is a citizen in the true sense and must fulfill the promise made in the Preamble that citizens would secure social, economic and political justice for all.
