Kalaburagi: The third additional district court of Kalaburgi disqualified the newly elected Kalburgi Municipal Corporation.KCC, BJP Member Priyank Ambareesh for giving false information about his age to the Election Commission.
It also ordered the defeated candidate (runner-up) Syeda Noor Fatima ,Congress) to take office.
Priyanka had won from Ward 24 in the KCC elections in September 2021. While filing her nomination, Priyanka had claimed that she was 21 years old, which was objected to by her detractors. As there were no documents to substantiate the objection, the election officer accepted it.
but later, Fatima Received documents under RTI Act about Priyanka and moved court saying that Priyanka has not crossed 21 years. Fatima demanded Priyanka’s disqualification.
Fathima also appealed to the court to declare him the winner as per the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act. After going through the documents and hearing the statements of witnesses, the court disqualified Priyanka from being a KCC member and also ordered Fatima to assume her post.
With this, the number of Congress increased to 28 (majority) in the 55-member council, while that of BJP to 23 and JD(S) to 4.
It is being said that with this shock of BJP, Congress can get a chance to rule the corporation.
