Youth fell during 1.6 km race for Agniveer selection, died in hospital Aurangabad News – Times of India

Aurangabad: A 20-year-old youth, who along with his brother had come to the city to participate in the ongoing Agniveer Recruitment, fell unconscious during the last few meters of the 1,600m race and died in a hospital hours later. Medical experts said youth, Karan Pawar died of cardiac arrest.
Karan and his brother Seaof Vithalwadi Sirjapuri In Kannada tehsil of Aurangabad district, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar participated in a four-lap 1,600m race held as part of the recruitment at the Marathwada University grounds at around 2 am. Athletic events are being held in the evening and later at night as there have been complaints of candidates suffering from sunstroke and other ailments during the day in the past.
Sagar said, “Karan fainted and in the last leg of the race, fell just a few meters from the finish line.”
On receiving the news of Karan’s death, his relatives and friends reached him in large numbers. Government Medical College and Hospital ,GMCHHere the police were forced to implement tight security arrangements.
Karan’s relatives said that he and Sagar were practicing for the last 3-4 years to join the army. He told that about six months ago Karan’s mother had passed away. His elderly father has been unwell for a long time.
At GMCH, Karan was shifted from OPD to medicine ward and given cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). “The young man barely had any pulse when he reached the hospital. We gave him CPR, which partially revived him. We also did a CT scan but found nothing. This was followed by troponin test, which turned out to be positive,” said a doctor.
Medical experts said that a positive troponin test is an indication that the patient has heart failure. The test measures the level of troponin protein in the blood, which is released when the heart muscle is damaged.
GMCH officials said that Karan was taken to the ICU at around 4 am and was put on life support system. He was officially declared brought dead at 8.30 am. Police have started investigation by registering a case of accidental death.
