Zydus Cadila supplies the first batch of its Covid vaccine ZyCoV-D to the Center

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) granted Restricted Emergency Use Authorization for the ZyCoV-D vaccine last year. The DNA vaccine is a three-dose vaccine manufactured by Ahmedabad-based Zydus Cadila. ZyCoV-D is to be administered at an interval of 28 days. The vaccine was granted emergency use authorization (EUA) by the drug regulator on August 20.

This is the first DNA plasmid Vaccination Indigenously developed by the company against the COVID-19 virus, in the world for human use. It is also the first COVID vaccine that is needle-free and is administered using Pharmajet, a needle-free applicator to ensure painless intradermal vaccine delivery, leading to a significant reduction in any major side effects .

DNA-based vaccination operates by transferring genetically modified blueprints of viral genes into small molecules of DNA or genetic material for injection into individuals being vaccinated.

ZyCoV-D has shown good stability at a temperature of about 25 degrees for at least three months. The thermostability of the vaccine will help in easy transportation and storage of the vaccine without the problem of temperature fluctuations.

For long-term use, a temperature of 2-8 degrees is sufficient. Besides being one DNA Plasmid VaccineZyCoV-D has no known problems associated with vector-based immunity.
