Airport worker dies after being hit by jet engine in US

The NTSB and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.

The New York Post reported that on December 31, an employee at a US airport died after being pulled into a plane engine. The incident happened at Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama.

According to a statement to Insider, the worker was pulled into the engine of the Embraer 170 at Montgomery Regional Airport around 3 p.m. Saturday where its parking brake was set, the National Transportation Safety Board said.

The plane was parked after taking off from Dallas but unfortunately one of its engines was still running. The worker got stuck in the engine. The victim worked for Piedmont Airlines.

“We are saddened to hear about the tragic loss of an AA/Piedmont Airlines team member,” Wade Davis, the airport’s executive director, said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time,” he added.

American Airlines said in a statement that it was devastated by the news. “We are focused on making sure everyone involved has the support they need during this difficult time,” the company told the New York Post.

However, the NTSB and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
