Andhra Pradesh: Motorcycles worth ₹26 lakh recovered, 2 arrested in Chittoor

Chittoor Urban Police on Tuesday arrested two youths from Vellore in Tamil Nadu and recovered 20 motorcycles, including six high-end bikes, worth around Rs 26 lakh, from a jungle-fringe location on the Chittoor-Tamil Nadu border.

Addressing a press conference here, Deputy SP (Law and Order) N Sudhakar Reddy said that four members of an inter-state gang were trying to enter Tamil Nadu on two bikes stolen from Chittoor.

Acting on a tip-off, a special team led by I-Town Police reached the spot and started checking the vehicles. Around 2 pm, the youth allegedly took a U-turn and tried to run towards Chittoor on seeing the police personnel at Reddigunta Junction. After a chase, the police could nab two of them, while two others escaped under cover of darkness.

Both the arrested persons have been identified as Shiva Shankar (26) and Vasanth of Katpadi in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. Their job was to steal new bikes from Chittoor and surrounding areas and sell them at throwaway prices in Tamil Nadu.

On questioning, the two confessed to having stolen vehicles, and took the personnel to a hideout at a nearby jungle-fringe location, where police recovered 20 bikes, most of them in the past few weeks along the Chittoor border. were stolen from

A few days ago, in a case of robbery under Puthalapattu police station area, ₹ 3,000 in cash was also recovered from the youth. Both were taken on remand. A search team has been formed to nab the gang members.
