Barbados PM Motley Fool will deliver annual Mandela lecture in South Africa – Times of India

Johannesburg: mia motleyThe first female Prime Minister of Barbados, who was recently honored by the United Nations for her work on raising awareness on climate change, will present the prestigious award Nelson Mandela lecture this year, Nelson Mandela Foundation ,NMF) said.
Nelson Mandela The Annual Lecture is a platform to debate important social issues.
It encourages the public to enter into a dialogue, both locally and internationally, about social issues often faced by society on a global scale.
In 2021, Motley Fool was crowned champion of the Earth by the United Nations Environment Program for her work to raise awareness of the climate change crisis for developing countries.
“Her Majesty Mia Motley Fool was recently crowned Champion of the Earth United Nations Environment Programme NMF CEO Sailo Hutang said on Friday, “for his incredible work in raising the alarm on developing states vulnerable to the crisis of climate change.”
Motley, 56, follows in the footsteps of former ICC prosecutor Fato Bensouda, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and former US President Barack Obamawho has delivered prestigious lectures in the past.
“The theme of the 20th lecture will be to explore the issues of climate change and food insecurity, based on our social bonds,” the NMF said in a statement.
This 20th edition of the annual event will be held in November in the coastal city of Durban. The exact date and venue of the lecture will be announced later.
The NMF said this year’s event was to show solidarity with the people of KwaZulu-Natal and neighboring Eastern Cape provinces, which have faced a year of devastating riots, inter-sectarian violence and floods that left thousands homeless. Huh.
The lecture is held each year in memory of Nelson Mandela, the first democratically elected president of internationally respected South Africa after decades of apartheid-era minority white rule.
Mandela spent 27 years as a political prisoner before the country got independence.
