In a letter to the judges of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the judges complained about a bio-medical waste plant in the area, which they say emits toxic fumes. Shaikh Fayaz Alam of Govandi New Sangam Welfare Society said that the plant emits a lot of black smoke which he fears could be life threatening. “In the year 2007 when BMC awarded this tender to operate this plant, it was allotted in the middle of a highway on Mankhurd Ghatkopar link road near Deonar dumping ground in Sathe Nagar area of ​​Govandi. When contacted by BMC officials, they said that their responsibility as an urban local body (ULB) was limited to providing space for the plant to operate and the pollution caused by it was investigated by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). Should be known officials.
