Rupee gains 31 paise to end at 74.03 against US dollar

The rupee finally saw a high of 74.03 and a low of 74.21 to finally close at 74.03, a rise of 31 paise over its previous close.

The rupee on Monday closed 31 paise higher at 74.03 (provisional) against the US dollar amid strong buying in domestic equities.

In the interbank forex market, the local unit strengthened against the greenback at 74.15 and witnessed intra-day high of 74.03 and low of 74.21. It finally closed at 74.03, which is 31 paise higher than its previous closing price.

The rupee had closed at 74.34 against the US dollar in the previous session.

On the domestic equity market front, the BSE Sensex closed 650.98 points or 1.09% higher at 60,395.63, while the broader NSE Nifty jumped 190.60 points or 1.07% to end at 18,003.30.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which measures the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.19% to 95.90.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading 0.51% higher at $82.17 per barrel.

Foreign institutional investors were net buyers in the capital markets on Friday as they bought shares worth ₹496.27 crore, according to stock exchange data.
