A police officer narrowly escaped and a police vehicle was badly damaged when a speeding tanker lorry carrying toilet waste collided with the vehicle at Palarivattom SN Junction at around 1 am on Tuesday.

The tanker rammed into a nearby wall after colliding with the police vehicle of Maradu police station. He was booked under IPC section 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

The team was on patrolling duty from Maradu station when they received an alert from the control room about a speeding tanker heading towards Ernakulam from Edapally side. “Despite our gesture to stop the vehicle, it came towards us without slowing down. I got out of the way just in time. Though the accused tried to escape, we chased them,” said Rijin M. Thomas, Sub Inspector, Maradu said.

Reportedly, they were on the run. Another police team allegedly caught them dumping toilet garbage on the side of the road.
