The Chamber of Trade and Industry claimed on Tuesday that the proposed lockdown to curb air pollution in the city will “harass” lakhs of people, even as its effectiveness is being questioned.

The Delhi government has informed the Supreme Court that it is ready to take steps like a complete lockdown to control air pollution, but such a move will be worthwhile if the neighboring states implement the same in NCR regions.

A CTI statement said Delhi businessmen are not in support of the lockdown amid the wedding season.

Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) president Brijesh Goyal said traders are worried about the proposed lockdown due to air pollution.

Environmental experts believe that it will be of no use.

The CTI said that the lockdown is not a solution to the problem of pollution and it will not only cause a lot of damage to the economy but will also affect the employment of people during this wedding season.

It said that the wedding season has started and banquet hall hotels, farm houses, tent houses, employing lakhs of people will be affected when the lockdown is implemented.

However, Goyal said that 15 lakh traders of Delhi are in support of the government on the issue of air pollution and whatever decision they take, the traders will respect it.

He said that the CTI believes that the ultimate solution to any problem should be a lockdown.
