Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Sushant Nanda recently shared a video that shows the rescue of a leopard to draw attention to the issue of open wells around the animal’s habitats.

The short clip shows the leopard being picked up from inside the well and coming out as soon as it is pulled out. In the caption, Mr Nanda said such incidents would reduce if the wells around the animal’s habitat were closed. He also took a dig at the old technique of saving the leopard and called it the “Mohenjodaro Harappan Technique”.

“It should be taken up as a mission mode project, identification of open wells, GPS tagging and covering them from above by welding thick MS rods with mild steel screen or checkerboard locally made mesh. This will save a lot of trouble,” wrote one user. “Why can’t the IFS jointly ask the environment ministry to come up with such changes. All of them should come out against some such joint issues,” added another.

“The leopard seems grateful and went away without harming anyone. Salute to the forest department,” said the third. “I think, this is the greatest professional satisfaction one can get.!! Salute to the team..!!” Wrote the fourth.
