Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to use women self-help groups (SHGs), which were converted under the 5T initiative, for cleaning and protecting high school campuses. Odisha School Education Program Authority (OSEPA) has written to all District Collectors to utilize the help of SHGs for high school works on top priority.
Anupam Saha, Member Secretary, Mo School and State Project Director, OSEPA, on Wednesday wrote to all District Collectors and Chairman of District Level Committee, Mo School Abhiyan requesting them to provide human resources to women SHGs for cleanliness, monitoring and ward/security. “You are requested to instruct the schools to give first priority to utilize the services of Mission Shakti in appointment of human resource for cleaning of school premises and Ward/Security. Engagement daily minimum for 10 to 15 days per month can be done on wage basis,” read the letter.
Saha said in the letter that the expenses for the appointment of SHG members can be utilized from the MO School Fund available with the schools under HST. He said that the daily labor rate would be applicable which is subject to revision by the labor department in future.
The official communication said, “Efforts should also be made to mobilize other available resources including alumni for maintaining the process of monitoring and ensuring wards in schools through contributions by schools under non-core activities of Mo School Abhiyan.” should.”
In 2019, the state government had issued detailed guidelines for handing over mid-day meal (MDM) programs to women SHGs in schools with more than 100 students. Now SHG members are managing the MDM program. SHGs also supply chhatua to Anganwadi centers in the state.
