Prayagraj Superintendent of Police (City) Dinesh Kumar Singhwho was part of the team, said: “The joint team, after examining and verifying various records and after investigation, came to know about the politician’s qualities from the mafia. atiki Ahmed in neighboring Kaushambi district.
These properties were being deposited illegally. Following the orders of the District Magistrate (Prayagraj), joint teams searched the land of Ateeq, who is the leader of the 227 inter-state gang.
The joint team also put up a board related to attachment of property on the land.
The police restricted the entry of locals towards the site and attached the property under Section 14(1) of the Gangster Act. Police said that a total of 96 cases are registered against Ateeq in various police stations of the state. He is currently lodged in Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat.
SP (City), SDM (Sadar), Deputy SP (City-II), SDM (Chail), Inspector (Dhumanganj) and Inspector ( purmufti) was deputed to attach illegal property and maintain law and order during the exercise.
A senior official told TOI: “A joint team of police and administration has already attached properties worth over Rs 300 crore from the mafia-turned-politician in Prayagraj district in the last three years. Police are still searching for other properties of the mafia deposited illegally in neighboring Kaushambi and other districts. This was the first time that Ateeq’s properties in Chail tehsil of Kaushambi district were attached.
